How I Feel: Nana Yaw Oduro

10 - 26 November 2022

I present “HOW I FEEL”
A collection of images that reflects my reality from the period 2019 to 2022.

This is not a mere series or collection of works based on just thoughts as I like to put it. It is my reality and outcome upon periodic and intense self reflection.

"At a point in my already short career,
I had to take an indefinite break from my craft resulting in a hiatus for 3 years.
During this time I went through many phases and discovered a lot about myself.
There was depression, there was loneness, sometimes I laughed.
I felt lost and I knew I didn’t belong with the things I went to try.
This was a difficult time but a good time to reflect on my life and know what works for me and what and most importantly who I really am and want to do with my time on earth.
Identifying what works for me and myself took 3 years of self battle.
I’m glad a decision was made after the period.
I present “HOW I FEEL”
A collection of images that reflects my reality from the period 2019 to 2022.

This is not a mere series or collection of works based on just thoughts as I like to put it. It is my reality and outcome upon periodic and intense self reflection.
There are obvious narratives and expressions in all parts of this body of work.
The intention was to communicate not only with the images but the words as well.

I believe there’s a lot more understanding for the viewer to grasp when they read
the title of each image.
Another reason most of the titles are expressed in sentences.

So the works make more meaning to the wonderer even without the artist’s further narratives.

HOW I FEEL as the title suggests, is how I feel personally, performed by other people through which I express my feelings.

That is the basis of my art and in this series, it is no different.

By this practice, I am able to direct and control everything to my vision."
