INSTITUTIONAL EXHIBITION

The Ettore Fico Museum presents Salifou Lindou’s first solo institutional exhibition in Europe from Thursday, March 8 to Sunday, June 30, 2024. This exhibition is part of a global programming of five simultaneous solo shows of important afro descendant artists, from Africa and the Caribbean: Bouvy Enkobo, Victor Fotso Nyie, Elladj Lincy Deloumeaux, Salifou Lindou and James Mishio.

Salifou Lindou's solo presentation is based on the notions of movement and composition that underpin his work. The familiar comfort of an interior is followed by the tumult of political debate and the effervescence of the act of departure. Each room vibrates to a different score, a different tempo, a different instrument. Like an orchestra conductor, Salifou Lindou tunes the rhythms and modulates the volumes, bringing together in the museum three themes central to his work: everyday life, politicians and exodus – echoing the works presented at the Venice Biennale in 2022. Overlaying these themes is the exploration of textures with a tactile and sensorial approach. The exhibition presents works on aluminium sheet, paper and canvas. The artist denudes the metal, colours it and twists it. With his fingers, the artist manipulates the material in a perfect communion of paper and pastel. He superimposes himself on the canvas and composes between collage, painting and drawing.
